He is initially a friend to Ryner, but later opposes him. Sion is widely known as a tactical genius, and is willing to sacrifice for the greater good, something about which he is greatly conflicted. Despite his popularity with his people, he is often a target of assassination attempts, which at one point led to the death of his friend Fiole, for which he feels tremendous guilt. Thereafter, he led a revolution and ascended the throne, and is often known as the "Hero King of Roland". Despite having had nothing to do with this deed, Sion was praised for having dealt such a major blow to the opposing forces. While Sion was attending a military academy, Ryner, in a berserk rage caused by his powers, wiped out fifty Mage Knights from Estabul. He vowed at a young age to become king so he can fix this corrupted world.
Because of his lowly birth, he was shunned and hated by his half brothers. Sion Astal ( シオン・アスタール, Shion Asutāru?) Voiced by: Daisuke Ono (Japanese) Eric Vale (English) Son of the previous king and a lowly commoner, Sion is the current king of the nation of Roland. After rescuing Ryner from prison, she defects from her position serving the King of Roland and begins traveling with the Anti-Roland Coalition. She is a skilled sword user and possesses inhuman speed and reflexes. Ferris is traumatized by the strict training and abuse of her family. She is assigned by Sion to accompany Ryner on his quest to search for the "Relics of Heroes". Ferris carries a typically emotionless expression, is extremely proud of her own beauty, and enjoys dango. Ferris Eris ( フェリス・エリス, Ferisu Erisu) Voiced by: Ayahi Takagaki (Japanese) Luci Christian (English) A blonde-hair bishōjo with blue eyes who comes from a famous Swords-Clan ( 剣の一族, Tsurugi no Ichizoku) designated to serve as guards to the King of Roland. His real name is Feruna Lieutolu, and was born of the Noble House of Lieutolu. Later in the story, Ryner is nearly killed in battle, but awakens as "The Solver of All Formulas ( すべての式を解く者, Subete no Shiki o Tokumono)" which grants him incredible omniperceptive abilities. Because of the discrimination and social stigma Ryner has faced because of his power, he is resistant to forming meaningful relationships to others.
However, due to his father's implanting of a legendary demon lord's essence into him, Ryner is able to recover from such a state, which makes him a great object of interest to numerous individuals and groups throughout the story.
This is unusual, as often Alpha Stigma users are killed at a young age after their power causes them to go berserk.
